Gifts for the Bridesmaids

It is traditional for the bride to thank her attendants by presenting them with a gift as a token of her appreciation. The objective is for you to select a gift that is meaningful and thoughtful, something that hopefully will not be relegated to the back of a closet, but instead will serve as a lasting memento. Here is a list which may help you with making your choices. We have included more and not-so personal gifts.

Personal or Personalized Gifts

1. picture frame of you and your bridesmaids, or of a personal poem or note you have written
2. day or one or more spa treatments, as a group or individually
3. monogrammed or initialed gift: makeup bags, handkerchief, scarf, pen, letter opener,
  wine glasses, crystal clock, key ring, compact, etc.
4. perfume (favorite fragrance of each) with or without an atomizer
5. jewelry box which includes a personal note of thanks
6. something handmade by you
7. book on a "personal" topic with a hand-written inscription
8. bridesmaids' luncheon
9. day of beauty, with an accompanying gift certificate to purchase products
10. recipe book with your favorite recipes, inscribed, or one suited to the taste of each
11. jewelry (earrings, necklace, bracelet, something matching their bridesmaid attire
12. personalized stationery or note cards

Not-So Personal Gifts
1. tickets to a play or concert
2. aromatherapy candles, potpourri
3. hair jewelry
4. small box of extraordinary chocolates
5. plant . . . Bonsai, topiary
6. beauty, bath or toiletries items
7. day of activity (golf, horseback riding, kayaking, etc.)
8. decorative item for her home
9. designer makeup brushes
10. tea or other candle holder or candlesticks
11. holiday tree ornament
12. gift certificate (e.g., manicure, pedicure, massage)
13. lingerie bag
14. satin clothes hangers
15. assortment of teas or coffees
16. subscription to a magazine
17. enrollment in a fruit-of-the-month or flower-of-the-month club
