Your wedding ceremony is the focal point of your wedding, more important than any other aspect of your special day. It is, after all, that moment which binds you spiritually, religiously and legally, as man and wife. The Rose Ceremony is a meaningful and moving addition to a traditional ceremony. As bride and groom you may wish to incorporate this ceremony in its entirety or modify it so it is as relevant as possible to the two of you.
Typically, the Rose Ceremony takes place immediately after you have been pronounced husband and wife. You begin the Rose Ceremony, by giving one another a rose. If you wish to involve your children, you may also present a rose to each of them.
The "language of flowers" has had a resurgence in recent years and hearkens back to days when flowers were used as a way of communicating one's feelings and sentiments. A single red rose has always meant "I love you." This ceremony is way of expressing that sentiment and honoring your new status as husband and wife.
The text of the Ceremony may include the following or variations upon it.
"You have this day presented one another with a wedding ring. These rings will remain forever a public display of your vows to love, honor and respect one another from this day forward. This exchange of vows and rings and the commitment you have made to one another, gives you the titles of "husband" and "wife." Your first gift to one another in your new status is a single rose, a most appropriate gift because the rose is an everlasting, enduring symbol of love and a single rose will always be a way of saying "I love you."
[Husband and wife exchange roses, and, if they wish, a special song may be played.]
"Your exchange of roses has profound meaning although it is a simple act. It symbolizes the change which made the two of you into one. This exchange of roses represents your promise to offer true and abiding love within the context of a devoted marriage."
